 2016 Preview

Valley Head finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region seven, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Valley Head's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Wadley by a score of 50-0.

Valley Head took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011.

Valley Head was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.2 points a game.

Valley Head struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 39.0 points a game.

Since 2010, Valley Head has gone a combined 28-33. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Valley Head has managed to compile a record of 96-163. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 1A and 298th in the AHSAA.

Sam Graham resigned to accept an assistant coaching position at Athens. His only team at Valley Head produced a 3-7 record.

Brian Knapp takes over the football program at Valley Head after spending the past eight seasons as the head coach at Douglas. His teams went 27-53 without ever reaching the playoffs at Douglas.

Coach Knapp's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 27-53 (33.8%).

The Valley Head Tigers will play in Class 1A region six during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 1A but move from region seven over to region six.

The Tigers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region six this season.

The Tigers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Fyffe on Friday, August 19 at Long-Ridgeway Stadium. Last year the Fyffe Red Devils finished with an overall record of 13-2 and in second place in Class 2A region seven. The Red Devils lost in the Class 2A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Elba. They final score was 36-22 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn.

Valley Head and Fyffe have met a total of 59 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 24-34-1 record against the Red Devils. They last met in 2015 with Fyffe winning by a score of 48-0.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
